In an effort to battle childhood obesity and train the next generation of filmmakers, Get Fit Kids Corner andDelgado Community College have partnered to create interactive exercise videos led by kids and produced by college students.
Utilizing their production skills and facilities, Delgado students in performance and media arts have filmed and edited four, five-minute Get Fit Kids Corner workout sessions. This involves not only working with the kids to get the right camera angles, but also editing the shots together and integrating graphics into the recorded session.
Get Fit Kids Corner Executive Director Leslie Hoffman said she is very pleased with the work of the students and their advisors, describing the finished episodes as “brilliant.”
“This is the same division that is preparing students for entry into the motion picture/TV and video industries that have exploded with growth in this region,” Hoffman said. “This is quite a compliment to our organization.”

The five-minute episodes feature Get Fit Kids Corner members demonstrating an upbeat dance routine designed to encourage other kids to get up and moving. Recent episodes have also featured one or two kids sharing a healthy snack idea, typically involving fruit, nuts or granola and yogurt or nut butter.
Get Fit Kids Corner is a free membership program for children in the New Orleans area where participating children are taught fun dance routines that are designed to motivate them to exercise. GFKC membership also allows kids to participate in filming the five-minute workout segments, which are aired locally on Cox channels and as a regular feature on “Get Fit with Leslie.” The episodes are also available online at www.getfitkidscorner.org.
With the help of volunteer nutritionists and physicians, Get Fit Kids Corner also offers resources to teach families the importance and how-to’s of healthy eating and exercise habits.
